First Time Adoption Checklist

You have adopted your cat, now what????

Here is some useful information for new adoptions.

Necessary Items for Cats:

  • Food and water bowls
  • Food (canned and/or dry)
  • Cat treats. – Etta likes Friskies roasted chicken
  • Dental cat treats – Greenies chicken flavor
  • Litter box and scooper
  • Kitty litter
  • Hard plastic carrier to use to transport the cat to the vet
  • Nail clippers
  • Brush or comb (depends on your cat’s coat length and type)
  • Variety of toys (toys including catnip are a favorite) – Cat dancer, crinckle balls
  • Scratching posts – you should have multiples. Cardboards, some cat tree has it
  • Cat tree where she can nap and high enough to see outside a window.  – this is not buy immediately but it helps settling in
For litter box cleaning
  • Non-toxic cleanser
  • Enzymatic odor neutralizer
  • Super-absorbent paper towels
  • Sponge and scrub brush

Other items not first priority/optional :

  • Collar (not necessary if indoor and make sure it is “break away” type )
  • ID tag with your phone number (not if you don’t use a collar. My cats don’t have it for example)
  • Feline toothbrush and toothpaste (my cats won’t cooperate but some do :-D)
  • First-aid supplies
