Current Fosters
Current Foster Information
If you are a current foster with FFF please see helpful links below for all your needs.
We are a 501c3 charity organization and we will issue a “volunteer letter” if you need evidence of volunteer hours for community service.
So, you just joined the FFF Foster Team?? CONGRATS! Follow the steps below to get started.
- Our Fosters & Volunteers Facebook Group Information Page is Available HERE. It is highly recommended that you join this group to stay current on when you can pick up free food, litter, and supplies for your fosters. You can also see new events FFF is hosting, new volunteer opportunities, raffle opportunities, and ask helpful questions, because face it, every cat is different! This group is a one stop shop for everything FFF. Additionally, joining our Management Announcements chat is mandatory to make sure that you don’t miss anything important! Only management will send time sensitive messages here. All messages will have a corresponding post in the group where you can respond, ask questions, or make comments. Responses should not be sent on the chat to eliminate “losing” the main message. Please join that chat via this link HERE.
- WITHIN 24 HOURS- All foster cats must complete the intake process to receive an ID starting with the letters PS followed by numbers. If you do not have a PS ID at the top of your cat’s FB chat then you will need to complete their intake. If they do have a PS ID then you get to skip this step! Please click HERE if your foster is not in the FFF system yet. You can click HERE to add a kitten to an existing litter that already has an ID associated. After your cat is assigned a PS ID they will automatically be scheduled to be spayed/neutered, vaccines, & snap tested. Occasionally earlier appointments become available and will be up for grabs on our FB group.
- Sometimes foster cats may already come to us with some medical vaccines or procedures already completed. It is important to keep this FORM up to date and “pinned” in your cat’s chat so that all medical fosters can see what’s needed and who can help you get it. Our medical fosters can supply almost everything! However, a rabies vaccine can only be given by a licensed vet. If your cat needs a rabies vaccine complete a vet request HERE.
- All foster cats must be published before being adopted. This process should be started in about a week of having your foster so you have a general sense of their personality, likes, and dislikes. Please submit the form HERE and a bio team member will join your cat’s chat to see updated pictures, videos, and information as things change with your cat. Continue to update the chat once a week or more with things the bio writer can use. The cuter your pictures, videos, and updates, the more adoptable your cat will be! If your foster is already published then you do not need to fill out the bio form but you should continue to update your chat so the bio can stay current. HERE‘s great info for success tips on taking good photos & videos.
- Cute pictures & videos are imperative to getting your cat visibility on social media. If you have extra cute videos or photos that can be used for social media posts you can upload them HERE. You can also upload completed tiktok videos or Facebook reels that can be used on our profile. Please do not post completed photos or videos with tags to your personal profile.
- Remember to keep in touch! Give us an update on your chat at least once a week so we know how it’s going! In this case, absence DOES NOT make our heart grow fonder. Don’t make us hiss at you!!
GREAT NEWS, your cat is now adoption ready!
- Adoptable cats need a virtual or in person meeting before approving an adopter. Check out our PAGE for information on how to have a successful meeting.
- The most adoption hungry eyes are visitors at our various store locations that see hundreds of customers a day. Once your cat is adoption ready sending them to a store is a great next step towards their furrrever home. Please fill in this form HERE to get them on a wait list for a store location.
- If you enjoy volunteering with FFF or if you’d like to see some changes, fill out our Anonymous Foster Survey HERE
- Sometimes a cat just doesn’t end up working out in your home. Maybe you only handle sick cats and you have nursed them back to health! Or, you only handle bottle babies and they’re all grown up! There may even be some special needs that you’ve discovered and you’re just not able to handle them. That’s OK! We would like to give you the tools to handle whatever issue you’re facing to eliminate the cats moving back and forth amongst a million people, that’s what your cat’s personal chat is for! If the solutions, for whatever reason, just aren’t working out you can fill in this form HERE or HERE and your cat can go to a new foster. If you’re able to find an available foster before filling out the form it will speed up the process in moving your cat.
- Every year our foster agreement is updated to reflect changes to the program. Please update your AGREEMENT by filling it out every year.
OH NO!! Your cat is sick?
If your cat is not in imminent danger please refer to your cat’s personal chat to ask a medical foster for advice. You can also see these links below to get some information for specific common concerns.
- If no one is getting back to you in your cat’s chat (over 24 hours) with answers to your medical questions OR your medical foster tells you to make a vet appointment you should fill out this FORM, wait for confirmation that your request has been approved. Confirmation will come via your registered email. You can call your approved vet after you receive confirmation.
- If your cat is in imminent danger & no one has responded on your cat’s chat please fill out this FORM. This will send an emergent text to the medical team to respond to you immediately. Imminent danger is considered but not limited to uncontrollable bleeding, visibly broken bone, & extreme lethargy. Please give management at least 1 hour to respond after you complete this form.
- If you do not get a response within 1 hour or you do not think your cat will make it if you wait and you have exhausted ALL efforts to reach someone for help then please follow our after hours ER policy. This policy can be located HERE.
You’ve been a foster with FFF long enough to learn the ropes and you want to help even MORE?!?! That’s awesome, see below for upgraded foster opportunities!
Medical Foster
Our medical fosters are located around the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs. We supply them with key items such as dewormer, antibiotics, flea treatment, FVRCP vaccines, and fluids. Our medical fosters are available for our foster parents to come to them to pick up supplies, advice, needed items, or in some instances medical care. The ability to give an injection or administer subq fluids is required. Please fill out the application HERE to be considered for the medical foster role.
Foster Buddy
This role requires the ability to oversee a foster parent or small group of parents based on your availability. You are the first line of questioning and you are able to answer typical foster questions such as how much dewormer do I give? When do I get their vaccines updated? This role requires good communication skills, the ability to de-escalate a situation and bring a calming and reassuring voice to the discussion as many first-time fosters may panic when they are exposed to a sick rescue cat. This can be a time-consuming role. If you’re interested in helping new fosters learn the ropes you can fill out an application HERE.
